Season’s Wettest Day Stops Mumbai In Its Tracks

IT RAINED CATS & DOGS 


• The city logged the highest one-day rainfall so far this year. While Colaba received 182.9mm between 8.30pm on Thursday and 8.30pm on Friday, Santa Cruz received 206.2mm. Between 8.30am and 5.30pm on Friday, Santa Cruz recorded 101mm, Colaba 33.5mm 

• Mumbaikars can expect similar weather today, says the Met, with the rain tapering off from Sunday 
AGONY ON WHEELS 

• Thousands of commuters were left high and dry as CR services were crippled for the better part of the day. Nearly 200 suburban services on the Main and Harbour lines were cancelled due to accumulation of water on the tracks at Kurla. Even after the rain eased, trains were running 45 minutes to an hour late. Trains on WR were also delayed 

• Road traffic crawled. Western Express Highway, S V Road were blocked. Places like Khar & Andheri subways, Gandhi market at Sion, Hindmata were waterlogged. 600 BEST buses did not ply. Autos and taxis, where available, fleeced hapless citizens 
THE GOOD NEWS 

•All the five lakes that supply water to the city showed a steady rise of 13,034 million litres 
WALL COLLAPSE KILLS 10 
Ten workers were killed when portions of a compound wall of an under-construction luxury housing complex site at Kashimira in Mira Road collapsed on their shanties on Friday afternoon. Two others are said to be critical
